Why does ICP always seem to perform worse than other ecosystems? 🤔

Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to figure out why ICP seems to perform about twice as bad as other ecosystems, even though the tech is amazing.

I have a few ideas, but I’d really love to hear your thoughts first.

Is it marketing? Community? Adoption? Something else entirely?

Would be great to get a real discussion going :backhand_index_pointing_down:

I don’t think it’s community we have a great one with bag holders who will hold to 0. I think it’s the fact there are 0 apps that are actually useful :joy:

The dfinity grants should of been giving quarterly and only if they have met the roadmap

I don’t even think marketing will help right now, we need working products

First need to understand how crypto cycles work. 1 huge pump, than 4 years selling, the same money is used to buy at bear market bottom. When time comes the rest will be for pumping as high as can. At top project has lot of tokens+staking position. Most projects find investors and directly sell tokens to them at 50-60% of market value. Other projects just sell at top, make few pumps and dump again. So they have lot money for next cycle.

Ok now ICP problem, its Dfinity. Dfinity is non profit organisation, they have no right (i think) to promote token or pump it up. This means Dfinity only sells, They do not play market maker, dont pump to sell to big investors. Dfinity claims to be contributer and not Founder. There is mindset that tech moves price, it does not. Usually founders move price, speculators jump in and price moves with every news, ICP does not do it.

Now lets talk about tokenomics, its bad, lot of inflation and no burn. If we count huge maturity amount and wrong whales on ICP, we get disaster. No big investor put 500mil into it when next month He could be down 400mil usd as someone sold 50mil ICP tokens.

Only thing what right now matters is ICP token value, need sustainable buy pressure that is equal to sell pressure. Dfinity 8-20mil usd sell pressure per month is destroying all liquidity on exchanges, very easy to push price down. What we need is to stop inflation so that ICP becomes investment asset, just holding it has to gain value overtime, or it to not lose to fiat inflation.

Without token being valuable, ICP tech wont get adoption. Caffeine is nice, but without people, to who we build stuff? Burn that Caffeine is doing is from Dfinity ICP, nothing is bought from market. Caffeine launch was stelth, most likely to gain users slowly. I dont think they get many paid users.

Where does that figure come from? They aren’t selling on exchanges at all, all OTC and it’s nowhere near that much.

Figure comes from amounts that they unlocked from locked neurons over many months + minting from maturity that we dont have exact numbers.

And you see this ICP going to exchanges? I don’t - the only ICP that seems to be sold at spot comes from the Node Providers and a handful of seed investors.

I can see exactly what’s going on with the price, all on the blockchain.

It’s a group of colluding Node Providers that are shorting the price, dumping spot on exchanges.. and then negotiating with the foundation to buy OTC at a discount.

The fact the foundation is letting this happen tells you a lot.

There is no point unlocking if they dont use it, but they do use. It goes as upkeep of all Dfinity employs, data centres/nodes that they own (node provider rewards they keep in ICP, another way to hide profit?), they got buildings, rent or whatever, than grants. All of it adds up.

BTW nice forum, looks good.

Dom ignored the dump-and-pump game, thinking if I build, the price will follow, well, not in this market

They could have paid a separate org to do the promotion.
I went to headquarter s to talk to the main “promo” people and they didnt want to know. And talked to Kyle who eventually said stop going on about it.
I was offered promo for my poked bots game only for them to eventually say it wasn’t big enough news
Hubs leader and Dominic promised to promote it for it never too happen.

Kyle is more concerned with kickbacks from Bob Bodily than your project. I regret the day I ever told Dom that he was a good hire.

Here’s hoping for better times ahead!

I loved reading his ICP data analysis posts before he joined the organization. Kinda sucks now.

To be fair overall I have found Kyle to be the most helpful of all the dfinity staff, and he did try to bring up what I was saying in some meeting but no one listened.

According to public information, the Foundation claimed to have spent $500 million developing “ICP 1.0.”
They raised $160 million in financing before the mainnet launch.
Assuming all of that was spent by the 2021 TGE, by early 2025 they would need at least $340 million more in funding.
If they aren’t selling ICP tokens, are there any other possible sources of funds?

not sure, but they’re allowed to sell some ICP to keep things running, right?
